Congratulations SUSC United Eagles
Saskatchewan Provincial Champs 2006
The SUSC United Eagles U –16 Girls recently earned their way to the adidas Cup (National Club competition) by defeating the Hollandia Tigers 5-2 in the two game total score final held on the long weekend in September. This is the second time in three years that the team will proudly represent the province of Saskatchewan and the Saskatoon United Soccer Club at the National competition. This year the event is being held in New Brunswick from October 4th to 9th.
The journey started in September of 2000
for 7 members of the current team, when they played on the SUSC Angels, a
“junior” U12 team in Division 1. Wins were few and far between for the girls in
the first season but the great attitude of the coach, players and parents, and
the support of SUSC, helped the team to learn and grow from the experience, and
they haven’t looked back since.
The current team under Huw Morris, head coach, Tim Murphy assistant coach, and Lorraine Murphy, manager, has had a very successful season to date. The season kicked off with the SISCO tournament where the team lost the final to an excellent team from Sherwood Park, Alberta.
The team finished first in the PSL league this
season, with a record of 12 wins, 1 tie, and 2 losses, good enough to earn a bye
to the final. The team gave up only 12 goals and keeper Katie Crawford earned 7
shutouts in the 15 regular season games.
